Discovery & Growth

How Clients Find SHIFT-Powered Businesses

SHIFT is not a consumer marketplace. We don't operate a Fresha-style or Booksy-style directory that markets your chair to strangers. Instead, SHIFT gives you the infrastructure to drive discovery through channels you already own — Google, social media, direct links, QR codes, and referrals — so every client you acquire stays yours.

Discovery channels that work

  • Google Business Profile — Attach your SHIFT booking link directly to your Google listing. When a client searches your name or "haircut near me," they see your hours, reviews, photos, and a "Book" button that opens your SHIFT flow. Highest-intent discovery channel for most local businesses.
  • Instagram and TikTok bio links — Your SHIFT booking link lives in your bio. A tap takes followers straight into the booking flow. Apple Pay closes the loop in under 30 seconds. No link-in-bio middleware required.
  • Direct booking links — Every SHIFT account has a clean booking URL (yourname.goingshift.com or a custom domain) you can share in emails, text threads, printed cards, and signage.
  • QR codes — Print a QR code on your storefront, receipt, business card, or mirror. A scan takes the client to the same booking flow. QR conversions are tracked with their own UTM so you can see which physical placements drive bookings.
  • Referrals — SHIFT's loyalty program can reward clients for referrals. Happy clients share a unique link and earn points or service credit when their friend books. The referrer and referee both see the credit in their profile.
  • Reviews — Automated post-visit review requests direct satisfied clients to your Google or Yelp listing. More reviews lift your position in local search. SHIFT businesses using automated requests typically see 3x review volume in 60 days.

Why direct ownership beats marketplace leads

Consumer marketplaces (Fresha, Booksy, StyleSeat) offer an appealing promise: new clients, delivered. For a brand-new business with no organic demand, that can be useful short-term. But the long-term cost is real: the marketplace trains your clients to search and rebook through the platform, not with you directly. You don't own the relationship. You rent it.

When the marketplace raises its cut, lists a competitor next to you, or changes its ranking algorithm, you lose clients you essentially paid twice to acquire — once for the initial booking fee, again every time they rebook. A loyal client acquired through your own brand costs more upfront but returns you 10x the lifetime value of a marketplace lead.

SHIFT is the infrastructure for direct ownership. Your booking page is yours. Your client list is yours. Your reviews are yours. We don't sit between you and your clients.

Booking source analytics

SHIFT attributes every booking to its source. The marketing dashboard breaks down new bookings and repeat bookings by channel: Google, Instagram, TikTok, direct, QR code, referral, and any custom UTM campaigns you create. You see which channels drive first visits and which drive repeat visits — two very different metrics. Most businesses discover that social brings in new clients while Google and direct links dominate repeat bookings.

Frequently asked questions

No. SHIFT is not a marketplace. Your clients are yours, not shared with a platform that can send them to a competitor next time. SHIFT helps you drive discovery through channels you control — your Google Business Profile, Instagram, direct links, QR codes, and referrals — so the relationship stays between you and the client.

Marketplaces solve a real problem (new client acquisition for brand-new businesses) but charge a long-term cost: they train your clients to shop around and rebook on the marketplace, not with you. If the marketplace raises fees, delists you, or surfaces a competitor, you lose clients you paid to acquire. Direct ownership is slower to scale but more durable.

Through your Google Business Profile with the booking link attached, Instagram and TikTok bio links, direct booking URLs on your website, QR codes in-shop and on cards, and referrals from existing clients. SHIFT tracks where every booking originates so you know which channels work.

Reserve with Google integration is on the roadmap. For now, the cleanest Google integration is attaching your SHIFT booking link directly to your Google Business Profile — clients click "Book" on Google and land in your SHIFT booking flow.

Yes. Every SHIFT booking link includes a UTM parameter. You see booking source (Instagram, Google, direct, QR, referral) on each new client profile and in your marketing dashboard. Attribution is per-booking, not just first-touch.
